India has the highest birth rate in the world – more than 26 million a year – and also accounts for more than 20 per cent of child mortality worldwide. Nine million immunization sessions are organized each year to target these infants and 30 million pregnant women for “Routine Immunization” (RI).
To create awareness on these issues, UNICEF India and the Association of Radio Operators of India (AROI) recently organized an event on the need to encourage the Girl Child through the medium of sports and “Routine Immunization”. The event was attended by key influencers, celebrities and also saw the support of many radio journalists (RJs), through their on-air radio shows.
By reaching out a wide section of radio listeners, RJs help this cause to encourage people about the importance of girl child and create awareness on the importance of Routine Immunization. They encourage discussions by sharing their point of view, create jingles, use local dialects to tell stories and share bytes of influencers on the topic with their listeners.
RJ Upasana Kaur, from Fever FM, Bangalore, shares a beautiful jingle touching the aspects of the girl child and “Routine Immunization” in which a newborn baby girl is reminding her mother the importance of “Routine Immunization”.
